Details
NORTH MOLTON SS 7229-7329 18/109 Emmett's Cottage and barn adjoining - to west II Cottage and adjoining barn. Late C17 or early C18 cottage with late C19 addition. C18 barn. Uncoursed stone rubble ground floor with rendered cob to first floor, C19 addition of uncoursed stone rubble with red-brick dressings. Gable-ended roof, with corrugated asbestos to c.1700 part and Welsh slate to C19 addition. Circa 1700 stone stack and C19 red-brick stack. Barn of uncoursed stone rubble to front, cob on stone plinth to rear, and gable-ended corrugated-iron roof. Plan: One-room plan cottage, facing south. External end stack to left with winder staircase in left-hand rear corner and front entrance to right. Stud partition, possibly later addition, forming entrance hall at right-hand end of room. One-room C19 addition to right. Later C18 barn added to left (see straight joints). Two storeys. Exterior: Three windows to first floor and 2 to ground floor, all late C19 two-light wooden casements; windows in right-hand C19 part with red brick dressings. Segmental-headed right-hand ground-floor window was formerly a doorway (see straight joints below). Central boarded door (at right-hand end of C18 block) with wooden lintel. Large external stack to left-hand gable end with projecting semi-circular bread oven (visible in barn). Two C19 windows to rear of cottage. Barn adjoining to left with wide central entrance. Blocked doorway to rear. Interior: of cottage: Circa 1700 part with 2 roughly-chamfered cross beams in ground- floor room. First floor divided by C19 partitions. Barn with C20 five-bay roof and loft at left-hand end. This cottage is also known as West Park Cottage.
