DITTISHAM SX8654-SX8754 17/311 THE QUAY Dunedin House
GV II
House. Circa 1835. Stone rubble, rendered at front, rendered stud wall at rear. Slate roof with gabled ends, deep eaves and black glazed ridge tiles. Brick gable end stacks, the right hand with yellow clay louvred pots. Plan: 2 principal front rooms with a central through passage between and a straight staircase behind the right hand room. The single storey outshut at the rear with shallow service rooms might be an original feature or a later C19 addition. The rear outshut has been heightened on the left hand end. Said to have been one house with Dunedin Cottage qv originally. Exterior: 3 storeys. Symmetrical 3-window east front. All C19 12-pane sash, the ground and first floor are original, the second floor are later C19 replacements. Central doorway with a C20 glazed door and a C20 glazed gabled porch. The rear has a single storey outshut with a corrugated asbestos lean-to roof, heightened at the right hand end. Interior: All the early C19 panelled doors remain intact but the ground floor fireplaces have been altered. The staircase behind the right hand room has no balustrade.
