House. Late C15 or early C16. Exposed timber frame. Of Wealden type. Originally a 3-bays, hall-house, jettied at N end, but remainder jettied with tension bracing c.1600. Plastered, and old red tile roof with square chimneystack towards S rebuilt at top. Ground floor 2-and 3-light casements with shutters. 4 upper floor, diamond leaded casements including a canted oriel. Bought by William Morris for his sister Henrietta and converted from 2 cottages by Philip Webb, 1895, who added 2 hipped roof rear extensions N and S. Roughcast with 2-, 3- and 4-light leaded casements. (Pevsner (1977) 277; RCHM Typescript).
