GV II
House, now farmhouse and separate house. C16 with C17 and C18 alterations. Timber-framed house, the outer walls enclosed and rebuilt in rubble and cobble at ground floor west end, the remainder encased in brick (random and English bond) and the east end rebuilt in brick; graduated grey slate to front and left return, graduated stone slates to rear. Originally a hall and cross-wing plan, altered to a low 2-storey, 2-bay central range with gabled bay to left (Farmhouse) and a higher 2-storey by (now separate cottage) to right. C20 half-glazed door to central range, right. Side- sliding sashes of 3 x 6 panes to right bay, ground and first floor, C20 3- light casement replacements to central range and left bay. Narrow C20 6- pane window first-floor left of right bay. All openings have flat stretcher arches. Brick band at eaves level to gabled left bay, first-floor band to right bay. Barge boards and the upper half of a crown post with collar exposed in left gable. C19 brick stacks throughout: forward of ridge opposite entrance, far left, rear left, and end stack right. Rear: central 6-panel door with timber lintel, small-pane windows to centre and left bay. Left return: half-glazed door to left of centre, small-paned window to left, ground and first floor. Projecting first-floor band, boxed-in eaves. Interior: centre and left bay (Lake View Farmhouse) - the front door opens onto the side of a large fireplace; the living room has ovolo-moulded cross beams with pyramid stops. The cross wing and hall contain the substantial remains of a 2-bay timber-framed structure, visible at the first floor. The central truss is composed of principal posts with curved braces to a tie beam, the walling beneath the tie and wall plate composed of studs infilled with wattle and daub. The principal rafters are visible against the rear wall of the cross wing and the roof structure is probably original. Right bay, (Lake View Cottage): a ceiling beam rests above the front window lintel.
