Details
TQ 2980 NE CITY OF WESTMINSTER GERRARD STREET, W1 71/32 23.11.78 Nos. 4 and 5 G.V. II Terrace houses. 1733-34 with late C.18/early C.19 top floor to No. 5. Rendered brick, slate roofs. No. 4 of 3 storeys and continuous dormer attic; No. 5 of 4 storeys. Each of 3 windows wide. No. 4 has mid C.20 shop front. No. 5 has entry to mid C.19 shop front with square headed house doorway with fanlight but the shop display window and door altered, all pilaster framed with entablature-fascia having dentil cornice. Upper floors mostly retain segmental arched recessed sashes, with late C.18 glazing bars, in later architrave surrounds, but the 1st floor windows of No. 5 with early C.19 cornices on consoles and paterae friezes. Sill bands and parapets with copings. Original cast iron rainwater head between No. 5 and No.6 (qv).The interior of No. 5 retains original passage-hall panelling and cut string dog leg stair with turned balusters and ramped handrail.
