Details
SX 07 NW ST KEW ST KEW 5/215 St Kew Inn - GV II House, now public house. Possibly early C19. Stone rubble with large granite quoins and brick dressings to segmental arched window openings. Slate roof, original range with hipped end on left and cross wing on right with hipped ends to front and rear. Extended with front projecting wing on left with hipped end. Brick rear lateral stack to hall/kitchen in earlier range with brick side lateral and rear end stacks to cross wing on right. Brick side lateral stack to left-hand wing. Plan; hall/kitchen in main range on left heated by rear lateral stack with possibly small inner room beyond on left, probably unheated. Wide through passage/stair hall to right with parlour cross wing on right of 2-room plan, forming an overall 'T' shaped plan. Extended in circa mid C19 with projecting wing of 1-room plan on front left. 2 storeys regular 1:3:1 window front with central range flanked by almost symmetrical front projecting 2-storey wings. Central 3-window range with horned 16-pane sash. Early C19 tripartite hornless sash and C19 6-panel door to right. First floor with 2 early C19 16-pane hornless sashes flanking central blind window. Projecting wings with 16-pane hornless sashes on ground and first floor with blind windows on first floor of inner side elevations. Interior Wide through passage/stair hall with early C19 stair. Cross wing on right with late C19 chimney piece in front room. Large hall kitchen now main bar with large C19 fireplace with expanding cast-iron grate in working order. Plaster ceiling with meat hooks. Left-hand wing remodelled in circa late C20. First floor not inspected. St Kew Inn remains relatively unaltered with an interesting archaic plan type.
