Padstow County Primary School,
School house and railings
II
Board school and school house now county primary school with wall and railings to
front. Circa 1880s. By Silvanus Trevail. Stone rubble with granite dressings.
Slate roof with gable ends. Brick axial stacks.
Plan: School comprises long low building with projecting gabled wings to right,
cientre and left and with school house attached on left hand end. Main entrance to
school near centre of building.
Exterior: Long low single storey building with 2 storey school house attached on
left; ;the school and school house under a continous roof.
Shallow projecting gabled wings to right and left, to left of centre and lower gabled
wing to right of centre.
Flat roofed entrance porch near centre and second entrance porch with hipped roof to
right. House to left has 4-pane sashes on ground and first floor. School has 4-pane
sashes in main range with triple lancet windows in the 2 gable-ended wings and a
double lancet with roundel above in the smaller gabled wing. The lancets are
decorated with alternating stone bands.
Low stone rubble walls to front with square-on-plan gate piers with pyramidal caps.
Original iron railings and gates with uprights terminating in fleur-de-lis.
The design of the school is similar to Trevails's schools at Delabole and St Teath
(qv).
