Higher Seed Lee Farmhouse

II

Farmhouse, probably mid-C17. Stone, slate roof with one ridge chimney
stack. Three-bay baffle-entry plan. Two storeys; plinth, band to 3
sides; modern glazed porch at junction of 1st and 2nd bays, a single-
light- window above it; otherwise 1:2 stone mullion windows on each floor,
all of 3 lights except at ground floor of 3rd bay which has 5 lights.
Left end wall has one similar 3-light window at ground floor; rear wall
has 4 others at 1st floor, and one at ground floor of 3rd bay, those to
1st and 2nd bays somewhat altered. Former shippon attached at right
end of house has stone slate roof of lower pitch. Interior: quarter-
round moulded and stopped beams at ground floor of all 3 bays, inglenook
with similarly moulded bressummer in 2nd bay; stop chamfered beams at
1st floor; timber-framed internal partitions, dogleg staircase (from
ground floor to attic) of C17 type, with turned balusters, panelled
newels, and moulded string.
