DIPTFORD SX75SW 4/204 Barn and shippon range immediately north west of Combeshead Farmhouse
GV II
Barn and adjoining shippon. Circa early C19. Slate rubble. Grouted and slurried scantle slate roof with gabled ends, the shippon roof has hipped end. Plan: L-shaped plan; the rectangular barn built down the slope with the lower end to left (south), and a loading door at the higher ground level at the right end; higher ground level also at the rear. Exterior: Wide barn doorway at centre of the front with corrugated iron pentice canopy over and plank double doors. Projecting at front at right angles at higher right end a shippon with 4 shippon doorways with segmental stone arches (one blocked) and 2 loft doorways and 1 windows above. At the higher ground level at the rear of the shippon a loading doorway to the hay loft. In the end wall of the shippon a row of pigeon holes below the eaves. At the lower left end of the barn a roofless derelict farm building. The building is built on the solid slate bedrock on a steeply sloping site. Interior not inspected.
