5/222 High Head Chapel 27.12.67 II
Private chapel for High Head Castle now disused. Dated and inscribed over entrance CHRISTOPHER RICHMOND ESQ, EDWARD HASELL ESQ, ANNO DOMINI 1682 with C18 alterations. Red sandstone rubble walls partly covered with cement render. Graduated greenslate roof with east cross finial and west open bellcote. 5-bay nave/chancel. South-west C18 segmental-arched doorway and pointed-arched window openings, all with red sandstone surrounds. One blocked 2-light stone-mullioned window shows where render has fallen away. Small west C17 chamfered-surround opening. North wall has one pointed-arched window and one C17 2-light stone-mullioned window. Larger east pointed-arched window, under C17 stone inscribed with the churchwardens' names. Interior has partitioned porch and boarded ceilings. Panelled pews, partly removed, along with all other furnishing and fittings. Windows and doors removed;and derelict at the time of survey.
