Row of 3 cottages probably one house originally. Probably C16, extended and converted into a row of cottages in early to mid C17. Local stone rubble upper section of walls are plastered cob. thatched roof, gabled at right end and swept down over lean-to at left end; eyebrow eaves over first floor windows. 2 large stone rubble lateral stacks at rear and gable end stack to right. Plan: of the original house uncertain, but it may have had 3 rooms and a through passage, the lower end to the right. In early to mid C17 it was converted into a row of cottages. No 1 to the right occupying the lower end with partitions inserted to form 2 rooms and a central passage; heated room to right with lower gable end stack with oven and an unheated room to left. No 2 of centre occupies the hall, it is a one heated room plan with a rear lateral stack the passage to the right may be in the position of the original passage or it may have been further to the right in the unheated room of No 1. No 3 to the left occupies the inner room, if the original house had an inner room; this has been enlarged to form the main heated room of a 2-room plan cottage with a rear lateral stack and a newel stair to its right wide, a central passage and a smaller unheated room at the left end without a chamber over. Nos 1 and 2 have circa C18 or C19 staircases on the rear walls of their left hand rooms. The outshuts at the back are probably c18 and C19. Exterior: 2 storeys. Long 8 window range, the 3 windows to left set back slightly and one window to left in single storey part. Late C19 or C20 2 and 3-light casements with glazing bars. The right hand ground floor C17 2-light ovolo moulded stone mullion window has a hoodmould. The other ground floor windows have timber lintels, some chamfered. The 4 first floor windows to right have chamfered timber lintels with pronounced camber under the eyebrowed eaves. 3 doorways: No 1 to right has chamfered timber lintel with straight cut stops chamfered C17 doorframe with mason's mitres, Cl9 plank door and C20 slated canopy; No 2 to right of centre has similar lintel, doorframe and door but single piece of slate for canopy supported on old timber cantilevers and rafters; No 3 to left has timber lintel with run-out stops plank door with wrought iron hinges and slated canopy on timber cantilevers. There is a small squint in the angle where the left hand extension is set back. Interior: No 1 to right has chamfered cross-beam without stops in right hand room and gable end fireplace with an oven and rendered timber lintel. To left of entrance the remains of a plank partition now concealed bay boards. Roof inaccessible but feet of very steep principals visible in first floor rooms. No 2 of centre has chamfered unstopped ceiling beams, rear lateral fireplace with stone rubble jambs and renewed timber lintel. Circa C19 stairs on rear wall. Very steep straight principals with lapped collars visible in first floor room and roof space inaccessible. No 3 to left has chamfered cross beam with bar pyramid stops at one end only stops at the other end possibly buried in the wall and unchamfered joists; newel stair at rear of same room; and roof with threaded purlins.
