Former dye houses at SJ 9206 7306
II
Dye houses. Late C19. Brick with asbestos sheet roofs with
slatted clerestoreys. 3 gabled single-storey structures, each
a single chamber forming a wedge-shaped ground plan.
Decorative brickwork forms recessed panels on each gable end.
The dye houses were originally part of a mill complex which
made handkerchiefs in the early part of the C20, and they
included vats and a laboratory. They are of interest as a rare
survivor of a building type and industrial practice once
common in Macclesfield as an important adjunct of the silk
industry.
