The Windmill Public House

House, now public house. c.1700; altered, and with later
extensions to rear. Handmade brown brick in Flemish bond with
red brick dressings and slate roof. Double-depth plan parallel
to road, with added back extension. Three storeys and formerly
4 windows; with a 2-course 1st-floor band and a 3-course
moulded and coped 2nd-floor band. The doorway in the 2nd bay
now has a C20 pedimented wooden doorcase with fluted
pilasters. The windows above the doorway were blocked up at an
early date; the other windows are all sashed without glazing
bars, and those at ground and 1st floors have deep flat-arched
heads of red brick, the soffits shaped into a wavy pattern;
and those at 2nd floor are square, with simpler surrounds.
Extruded gable chimney stacks. Lower 2-storey back extension
with stone slate roof. INTERIOR remodelled. Forms group with
associated cobbled forecourt (q.v.).
