2. C17 farmhouse (formerly Falkland Farm) probably of 2 bay, lobby-entrance plan type on long north/south axis. Later alterations and additions with late C18 south-west wing. Two storeys. Irregular fenestration. Tiled roofs with hipped and half- hipped gables. Old central brick stack with a pair of diagonal brick shafts. Red brick. Stuccoed south-west wing. Segmental-arched sash and casement windows with glazing bars, and leaded lights to mullioned windows. Venetian window in south- west wing. Doorway with bracketted hood. Interior with stop-chamfered ceiling beams to ground floor. Traditionally the farmhouse to which Lord Falkland's body was removed after the First Battle of Newbury in 1643. Listed II1 for historical associations. (Money. History of Newbury (1887) 477 and 566).
