House, extended and sub-divided to form 4 cottages. Late C17 with later additions
and alterations. Rendered and painted roughly coursed slate-stone; slate roofs
half-hipped to No 2 and with ceramic cresting to No 4. Earliest part is 3-bay
centre section of No 4 (long range), aligned approximately north-south, extended
to both left and right (straight joint to right). No 2 is former agricultural
building projecting at right-angles to west of No.3 (northern extension of No
4). 2 storeys. No 4 has 3 early C20 casements directly below eaves to centre
section with pigeon nesting holes and ledges between. Similar casements to
left and right of wide gabled porch with outer stable doors. Right extension
has 2 similar segmental - headed casements on first floor and one to right of
gabled porch with outer stable door. Both porches have inner 4-panel doors.
Ridge stack at join between sections, external end stack to right with 2-storey
lean-to abutting and external lateral stack to rear on left, all rendered.
2-storey full-length catslide outshut to rear. No 3 has recessed boarded door
to left and C19 segmental - headed casement to right with similar casement to
flat-roofed dormer breaking eaves directly above. Northward continuation (top
section is part of No 1) has C19 casements to rear and end stacks, north with
slate dripstones. No 2 has late C20 plastic casements to lower right and on
both floors to left of main range with small 16-paned glazing bar sash to upper
right. Fixed-light staircase window between. Lower section to right has plastic
casement to ground floor and small C19 casement directly below eaves. External
end stack to left and ridge stack at junction between sections, both rendered
Interior Upper part of No 4 has chamfered cross beams and fireplace with granite
lintel to ridge stack. C18 dog-leg staircase with turned balusters, moulded
handrail and square newels. part (extension) has fireplace with cloam
oven to end stack. C17 collar truss roof to original part, raised in C19.
No 2 also has collar truss roof in 3 bays with half bays for hipped ends. Late
c19 addition running at right angles to north of No 2 (part of No 1) is not
of special architectural interest.
