Orangery about 15 metres north east of Hamswell House

Orangery. Late C18 with alterations c.1930. Limestone ashlar, freestone and
rubble to sides and rear, hipped double Roman tiled roof with capped stack to
rear. Rectangular plan. South front has arcade of 5 round-headed openings,
central 9-pane glass door with radial glazing bars in fanlight, 2 sashes to each
side with splayed glazing bars in top sections, all in moulded surrounds, cornice
partly concealed by eaves. East elevation has blocked window, rear has blocked
door. Interior: bolection moulded stone fireplace and fine carved wooden niche
with shell hood with foliate key, carved spandrels and frieze to top, shaped
shelves with pierced carved panel below, both possibly removed from interior of
Hamswell House (q.v.) and reset.
