TL 41 NW HIGH WYCH GANGIES HILL ROAD (south side)

3/40 Fryars and detached bakehouse 5 metres to N -

GV II

House and bakehouse. Early C19 (but after 1839 Tithe Map). Symmetrical 2 storeys and attics timber frame plastered farmhouse. Hipped slate roof with plastered eaves soffit. Double pile plan with 2 chimneys on mid wall. Small gabled dormer on rear roof slope. Symmetrical 3 window E front. Flush sash window formerly with 6/6 panes but renewed with 3/3 panes. Central 4-panel door with flat hood on moulded trusses. Brick and slate bakehouse to N of house with N gable chimney, large sash window with 6/6 panes on E side, and S entrance. Interior has loft over S end but rest open to roof. House and buildings newly built on this site when moved from site opposite Stonards (TL 4513 1521) which is where farm stood in 1839 as shown on Tithe Map (1839) in HRO. This was presumably the centre of the manor of Freres recorded from C13 to C16 (VCH III (1912) 343).
