Details

KIDLINGTON MILL STREET SP4914 (North-east side) 10/107 Hampden Manor 26/11/51 (Formerly listed as Hampden Manor house and Garden House) GV II Shown on Ordnance Survey map as No.79. House. Late C17; C18 extension to right; remodelled in early C19 and C20. Coursed limestone rubble; gabled stone slate roof; brick left end stack, rendered right end stack and C17 external stone lateral stack to rear. 4-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic. Taller 2-window range to left has C17 flat stone arches over blocked openings, and timber lintels over early C19 eight-pane sashes including C17 moulded roll-stopped lintel to left; 2 gabled roof dormers. Two-window range to right, including early C18 bay to right, has similar windows and C20 round-arched doorway; gabled roof dormer; right gable end has sundial plaque. C20 garage range to front left; C20 outshuts and early C19 six- and 8-pane sashes to rear. Late C19 rear wing. Interior: remodelled in C20, with chamfered beams to right. Until c.1800 the house surrounded 3 sides of a courtyard. (R.C. Martin: A History of Mill Street, Kidlington: 1984, pp115-17)
