MANCHESTER

SD80SE MOSS BROOK ROAD, Harpurhey 698-1/3/707 (South side) 21/08/75 Crofters House (Manchester and District Dogs' Home) (Formerly Listed as: MOSS BROOK ROAD, Moston Crofters House (Manchester and District Dogs Home))

II

House. c.1810; altered. Painted roughcast, slate roof. Double-depth double-fronted plan. Two storeys, 3 windows, symmetrical. The ground floor has a central doorway (up 2 steps) with rusticated surround and panelled and glazed door, flanked by 2 large semicircular bow windows which have Tuscan pilasters, sashes with glazing bars, plain friezes and cornices linked by a straight section which protects the doorway. The 1st floor has 4-pane sashed windows, all with raised sills and lintels scored to resemble voussoirs, that in the centre narrower and with a plain surround as for a former doorway (and the sill of this window of brick), suggesting that the roofs of the bows and doorway were formerly used as a balcony. Moulded gutter cornice; rebuilt gable chimneys; small skylight in roof. Interior much altered but said to retain plain but good original staircase.
