STOKE CLIMSLAND - SX 37 NE 6/112 Lower Pempwell - - II

Farmhouse. Late C16, extended C17 and Cl9 with minor later additions and alterations. Painted roughly coursed slate-stone with granite quoins and dressings; slate roof. T-plan comprising long range aligned roughly east-west (earliest part to centre) west section of oblique angle to remainder with short range at right-angles to south-east extended in Cl9 (straight joint to rear). Two storeys to long range, one storey and attic to short range. Side facing road has two 4-paned sashes on each floor to long range, ground floor windows segmental-headed. Cl9 casement on first-floor to gable end. Short range has 2-storey lean-to porch in angle with long range. Inner C19 boarded door in segmental-headed chamfered wood surround leads to through- passage; C20 gabled dormer breaking eaves above. Similar dormers to right, one to Cl7 part and one to C19 addition. Segmental-headed 16-paned horned glazing bar sash to left of C19 addition on ground floor. Prominent external end stack to right. Long range has tall brown brick ridge stack (formerly an end stack) to rear at point where alignment of range and roof slope alters. Flat-roofed 2-storey porch to rear of through-passage over plank door in chamfered wood surround. Long range has 3-light.leaded window on ground floor of C16 part to this side. Farmyard side of long range has lean-to to left with 3-light flat-faced chamfered leaded mullion window immediately to right on ground floor; C19 casement immediately above, directly below eaves. Set-back section to centre has segmental-headed 3-light C19 casement on ground floor and C19 casement directly below eaves. Section at oblique angle to right has segmental-headed C19 casement to left on first floor with chamfered 4-centred arch-way below. Doorway with granite lintel to right. Brown brick ridge stack to left section marks eastward termination of C16 building. Beyond is C19 dairy with truncated end stack and semi-circular brad oven projection. Interior: C16 part has chamfered cross beams. C17 round-headed wooden doorway leads from east room of this part to through-passage. East room also has inglenook fireplace with granite lintel, jambs and cloam oven.
