Farmhouse. Late c16 with later additions and alterations. Roughly coursed
slate-stone with granite quoins and window surrounds; slate roof. 2-unit central
through-passage plan with gabled range projecting to right. 2 storeys. Main
range has mullion windows to each floor on either side of 2-storey gabled porch,
those to left 3-light, right 2-light, all cavetto moulded, ground-floor with
dripstones, lower right with king mullion. All have been fitted with late
C20 plastic casements. Porch also has 3-light cavetto-moulded mullion window
above chamfered 4-centred doorway with pointed strap hinges and heart-shaped
plate to handle of plank door. Fixed-light window in angled break with main
range to right and plastic casement in earlier opening above to main wall.
Prominent granite integral end stack with drips to left and narrower in regal
end stack to right. Gabled range projecting to right has mullion windows to
garden side, 3-light to upper left and lower right, 2-light to lower left and
upper right; wood casement to far left on ground floor. Cambered arch-way
to left on ground floor of front gable. Farmyard side has 2-light mullion
window on first floor to right with 2 similar windows below to right. Doorway
with wood lintel to left on first floor. Pigeon nesting holes and ledges directly
below eaves. This range is now used as a cowhouse. Formerly extended further
to north and north gable end rebuilt in C19 with lean-to attached. Late C19
two-storey gabled addition with red brick dressings at right-angles to rear
on right of main range, which has lean-to to rear on left.
Interior: Main range has chamfered joists with stepped ogee stops in left
ground-floor room and late C19 staircase off through-passage. Truncated integral
end stack to front gable of projecting range has infilled granite fireplace
with chamfered lintel and jambs to ground floor. Continuous loft and collar
and tie beam roof with chamfered cambered collars in 7 bays including to shortened
north bay.
