Terrace of houses incorporating gateway to Dean's Yard. 1853-54 by Sir George Gilbert Scott. Bath stone with gault brick and stone to Dean's Yard, slate roofs. Gothic with some early Tudor features, a carefully asymmetrical composition about the formal gatehouse with lively and varied skyline. 4 storeys, basements and dormered attics. 2 or 3 window wide fronts. Octagonal turreted and battlemented gatehouse. Houses have, pointed and 4 centred-arched doorways paired or set to right, some as recessed porches. 4 centred and square headed windows stone mullioned, some with tracery, rectangular through-storey bay windows and oriels; traceried balconies, buttresses, stepped gables and battlements. Decorative iron gates to vaulted carriageway. Ornate Gothic area railings. The rear to Dean's Yard plainer with stone mullioned windows and rectangular oriel-bays. Single storey rear extension to Nos. 2 and 3. Fine Gothic ironwork to areas on this front with the party boundary walls of Nos. 4 and 5 surmounted by ornate Gothic lamps, flanking gatehouse approach.
