Formerly known as: Ancrum Farm STAINDROP ROAD West Auckland. Farm buildings. Now independent stables and cottage. Early C19. Rubble with ashlar and brick dressings. Roofs pantiled. PLAN: U-plan. West range stable and barn. 2 storeys, 5 bays. North and south ranges stables and cottage. Single storey, 6 bays. EXTERIOR: elevations facing yard. West has 3 Dutch doors with flat stone lintels, vent slits on ground floor to left of first door and to right of second. First-floor slits above these, the left wider, and 2 boarded pitching doors. Right return has voussoirs to wide segmental arch with pitching door above. North range has wide passage arch at left, with beam on this elevation and elliptical arch at rear, one Dutch door and 2 renewed doors to cottage with renewed windows in original openings. South range has hit and miss vents at each end, Dutch doors paired at left and single at right ends, all with thin timber lintels, and 3 brick segmental cart arches between, now partly boarded to provide stable doors. Pantiled roofs, the west with stone gable copings. INTERIOR of west range shows much original detail including wood stall partitions, plain wood stairs to loft, and king post roof.
