Mill and house, now 2 houses. Probably late C17 or early C18 with north range, mill owner's house, of c1800 or earlier. Brick with some dressed stone; tile roofs with brick stacks. 2 parallel ranges. North range of 3 storeys; 4-window range. Top frieze of applied timber-frame and hipped roof. Entrance to left of centre has overlight with decorative glazing bars to 6-panel door. Windows have sills, and rubbed brick flat arches over 12-pane sashes, but ground floor left end window is partly blocked with narrow sash; 2nd floor windows have 6-pane casement and three 6-pane sashes. Lateral stack, cross-axial stack and right return lateral stack. Left return has some blocked segmental-headed openings, entrance, narrow window with cross-casement, and canted bay window to ground floor, and altered cross-casement and 12-pane sash to 1st floor; projecting gable end of south range has stone ground floor with partly covered buttress to angle, and 3-light transomed casement to ground floor. South range of 2 storeys and two 3-window ranges, that to left taller; stone footings. Windows have sills. Range to left has projecting ground floor with 2 windows with 12-pane sashes and glazed angle porch to entrance with panelled doorcase with cornice and 6-panel door, window with 12-pane sash to right; 1st floor has 3-light small-paned casements. Range to right has 2-light small-paned casements to ground floor and similar 3-light casements to 1st floor. Left return has C20 projection to cellar level. INTERIOR: north range has some C19 fireplaces and dogleg staircase with twisted balusters; south range has cellars. The mill became a woollen manufactory in 1809, by 1827 it produced carpets and knitting yarn, the former an important Lichfield industry, and by 1850 it produced lace and silk coach trimmings.
