II
Primitive Methodist Chapel. Dated 1893. Erected in memory of George Lamb. Yellow brick with ashlar dressings and slate roof with 2 rear gable stacks. Classical Revival style. Plinth, string course, sill and eaves bands. 2 storeys; 5x7 windows. First-floor windows have round heads. Projecting centre, 3 windows, has a first floor divided by Corinthian pilasters, paired at the corners, under a pedimented gable with a round ventilator. Sill band inscribed "Primitive Methodist Connexion" and frieze inscribed "George Lamb Memorial Chapel". Ground floor has rusticated brick flanking pilasters, panelled frize and cornice. Central ashlar doorcase with pediment on long curved brackets, panelled recess and panelled double doors with overlight. On either side, a transomed window, the left one blocked. Beyond, on either side, 2-storey porches with a single window above, and below, an ashlar doorcase with pediment on long curved brackets and panelled double doors with overlights. Porch returns have pedimented gables with a single window on each floor, both transomed. Main returns have 6 plain sashes on each floor. INTERIOR has pilasters and coved ceiling with ornamented cross beams. At the front, a round cornered opening with similar ornament, containing a gallery with panelled organ case and show pipes. Fielded panelled gallery on 3 sides, carried on cast-iron columns with composite capitals. On the gallery, internal porchs and leaded glazed draught screens. Aisle ceilings have span beams and struts. At the front, a half-round panelled wooden pulpit with stairs on either side, and in front of it, a semicircular dais with moulded rail on wrought-iron stands. Entrance lobby has moulded cornice and wooden dogleg stairs with turneed balusters and ramped scrolled handrails. Glazed internal porches with 6-panel doors. Fittings include matchboard benches and box pews. Memorial table to dead of World War II.
