GV II
Office building. c1885. Brick with ashlar and moulded brick
dressings and steep pitched plain tile roof with a large
panelled and coped ridge stack. Renaissance Revival style.
Ground-floor sill band, moulded ground floor cornice,
dentillated coved eaves. 2 storeys plus basement and attics; 6
window range. Windows are mainly wooden framed cross
casements. First-floor windows have fielded panels above them.
In the centre, 2 casements separated and flanked by canted
pilasters which are carried up into a large pedimented
through-eaves dormer with strapwork ornament and 2 smaller
casements. To left, 2 casements and to right, a single one.
Attic has on either side a smaller pedimented wooden dormer
with 2-light glazing bar casement, flanking the central
dormer. Ground floor has 5 casements. Basement has 4
segment-headed openings with hoodmoulds, the third one larger
and with matchboard double doors. To right, a slightly
projecting entrance bay. On the first floor, a round window
with moulded surround and glazing bars, flanked by plain
pilasters. Below, a brick doorcase with pilasters on reeded
pedestals, and segmental pediment with strapwork and ball
finial. Flat headed doorway with moulded surround to
wrought-iron traceried fanlight.
