GV II

Terrace of dwellings with two carriageway entrances to rear, now mostly flats with some inserted shops. c1830, subsequently altered, mid-late C20 shopfronts, some bow windows rebuilt 1980s when many buildings restored. Stucco over brick, some steeply-pitched slate roofs, others concealed behind parapets, rendered stacks. No.48 returned to Ivy Place, No.64 abutting No.65 (not included). Mostly 3 storeys plus attic over basement, some 4 storeys, variety of facades; mostly with moulded parapets and cast-iron balconies to first floor windows, rusticated ground floors, sash windows with mixed glazing bar patterns, some canted bays, others full-height bows with tripartite sashes. Nos 54-59 with giant Corinthian pilasters carrying entablature, acute angled pediments above, No.54 with added storey, rebuilt canted bay, Nos 55 and 56 bow fronted, arched head recess to carriageway entrance, Nos 57-59 with canted bays. Doors mostly C20, with rectangular fanlights; some inserted shops fronts. Cast-iron railings returned from entrances along street frontage with gates to basement areas.
