Terraced houses. c.1828-30. Yellow brick set in Flemish bond, stucco, roof obscured by parapet. Three storeys, two windows each. The houses orginally formed a symmetrical group with nos 36-37 as a centrepiece breaking forward; nos 42-3 break forward as one endpiece but the other end has been completely rebuilt in replica, now numbered 35E-F, and not included. Basement and ground floor stuccoed, the ground floor decorated with banded rustication; steps up to round-arched entrance with pilaster-jambs which are panelled except to no 41 where they are partly panelled and partly reeded, and no 42 where they are reeded; panelled doors. No 43 has a flat-arched entrance with overlight and panelled door framed by pilasters and entablature. Ground-floor windows round-arched with radiating glazing bars to nos 35A, 35C-38, 41-2, some with margin lights. First-floor windows flat-arched with stucco architraves and cornice to nos 35A-D, 38-41, round-arched with gauged brick heads to nos 36-37 and 42-43, all with iron balconies. Second-floor windows flat-arched with stucco architraves. 6/6 sashes common, the first-floor windows to nos 36 and 37 having radiating glazing bars. Stucco band and cornice, the cornice lost on nos 35A and 42-43; parapet, stepped up on nos 36-37; stacks on party walls. Area railings with spear-and-tassel finials, some replacement.
