Butcher's shop with accommodation above. Late C19; probably
earlier behind a re-modelled front.
Rendered, solid front wall. Slated roof.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys with garret; front wall heightened to give
the impression of a third full storey. 2-windows-wide.
Ground storey has late C19, or possibly early C20, fine tiled
butcher's shopfront, partly disguised by late C20 casing;
flanking pilasters with big consoles at the top, bracketed
cornice, tiling below display window with bulls' heads in
colour.
Second storey has 2 canted bay windows of wood with bracketed
top cornices having quatrefoils between the brackets; plain
sashes, but with panels of coloured, leaded glass above
crenellated transoms. The heads of the bays cut into a
dentilled cornice at sill level in the third storey. Windows
in the latter have double sashes; 4 panes in upper sashes, 2
in the lower ones. Moulded board below the eaves.
Rear wall contains several windows with barred sashes.
INTERIOR not examined, but shop has original tiling and wooden
cashier's box.
An early photograph shows the front before it was heightened,
but with the bay windows already in the second storey.
