GV II

2 houses, possibly originally with shops below; now in use as a supermarket with accommodation over. Probably mid C18 in origin and apparently built as a pair, the left hand building refenestrated in the circa 1830s. Circa 1960s shopfront. Painted Flemish bond brick; slate roof; axial stacks with brick shafts with corbelled caps. Plan: double depth. Exterior: 3 storeys. Symmetrical 2:2 bay front. Deep eaves with a moulded eaves cornice on moulded brackets. C20 shop front with a deep fascia extending across a passageway to the right. No 20 has C18 sash windows with moulded flush frames; ground floor glazed with probably original 12-pane sashes. The first floor windows also have moulded flush frames but are glazed with later 4-pane sashes. The windows of No 19 may have been the same but are now early C19 and longer. First floor glazed with recessed 12-pane sashes; second floor with similar 3/6-pane sashes. Interior: Ground floor gutted for shop. Features of interest may survive on the upper floors.
