GV II
Terrace of 16 houses. c1840. Limestone ashlar with ashlar party wall stacks and slate and pantile mansard roof. Double-depth plan. Neoclassical style. Each of 3 storeys, attic and basement; 1-window range. An irregularly-stepped terrace has a banded ground floor to a plat band, upper pilasters to a frieze, cornice and parapet. Left-hand doorways, right-hand to No.55 and a single-storey side porch to No.57, with overlights with margin panes, and 6-panel doors. Ground-floor windows have recessed sides, architraves to upper windows and first-floor cornices, to 6/6-pane and 3/3-pane second-floor sashes; casements to single dormers. First-floor slate balconies with cast-iron railings, and small wrought-iron railings to the ground-floor windows. Late C19 canted 2-storey bays to Nos 28, 53 & 57. INTERIOR: entrance halls with semicircular arches to side dogleg stairs with turned balusters and wreathed rails, 6-panel doors and panelled shutters. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached spear-headed cast-iron railings basement areas and steps to the doorway, and walls, capped piers and railings to front gardens.
