GV II

Shown on OS Map as No.6. Shop, now bank. c1800; altered 1939 and 1950. Ham Hill stone ashlar with slate roof, hipped to the south-east, on the corner, and gabled to the sides. 3 storeys; 6-window range. 3 windows face south, and 3 face east, with 8/8-pane sashes to upper floors. The ground floor has banded rustication below a moulded dentilled cornice which contains the bank's name. The slightly stepped-forward canted bay at the corner has a carved roundel with the bank emblem above a 1939 pedimented doorcase. The south facade, on Silver Street, is 3-window range with 6/6-pane horned sashes; range to the right is flanked by pilasters, though that to the left is really a chimney-stack. A moulded cornice spans both facades, as does a c1950 granite plinth. INTERIOR not inspected. HISTORY: a C19 photograph shows the shop to have been called London House, barber, saddler etc.
