ST5673SE SION HILL, Clifton 901-1/7/1029 (South East side) 08/01/59 No.19 and attached basement area railings, gates and piers (Formerly Listed as: SION HILL No.19)

GV II

Attached house. Dated 1786 by owner. Limestone ashlar and render, party wall stacks, mansard roof. Double-depth plan. Mid Georgian style. 3 storeys, attic and basement; 3-window range. A near-symmetrical front has a left-hand pilaster, rusticated ground floor, moulded cornice and coped attic storey; a right-of-centre semicircular-arched doorway has raised jambs, bracketed open pediment, batswing fanlight and 6-panel door, the upper 4 raised with cut-out corners. Incised voussoirs on the ground floor, 5 stepped voussoirs above, narrower to the centre windows which are set to the right, with horned plate-glass sashes in exposed frames. INTERIOR: large entrance hall with a left-hand dogleg stair to the front with uncut string, stick balusters, column newels and ramped rail; panelled reveals to 4-panel doors, panelled shutters, marble fire surrounds, and cornice frieze with patera and lion heads. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached wrought-iron spear-headed front area gates and railings with urn finials and capped corner piers. Reported as being an infill in the almost-complete terrace, hence the asymmetry of the facade.
