Office building. 1882-89. By T Brownlow Thompson. Brick with ashlar dressings and slate mansard roof with coped gables and 2 panelled ridge stacks. Plinth, lintel and sill bands, moulded cornice. 3 storeys plus attics; 6-window range. Slightly projecting central entrance bay, flanked by full height pilaster strips, has 2 plain sashes on the upper floors with 2 relief panels between floors. On either side, a single plain sash on each floor and beyond, a shallow oriel bow window with 2 plain sashes on each floor separated by a stone mullion. Attics have a central shouldered shaped gable topped with a segmental pediment, with a round-arched plain sash. On either side, above the oriel windows, a smaller shaped gabled dormer with carved wood ornament, segmental pediment and keystone. Single round-headed plain sash. Ground floor has a splayed round-arched ashlar entrance with steps, imposts and keystone. Above it, a panel inscribed "Victoria Chambers". Double door with 6 lozenge shaped panels and plain overlight. To right, 2 plain sashes. To left, a similar window, then a shouldered cart entrance with chamfered lintel with a wooden infill panel and a pair of plank doors. Above the entrance, a segment-arched overlight with hoodmould and shaped keystone, the glazing protected by a wrought-iron grille. (Hull City Records Office document: OBLH 6519).
