House, now school. Early C18. Rendered with limestone dressings, slate roof and brick end stacks. Double-depth plan. Mid-Georgian style. 3 storeys; 5-window range, 2 storeys; 2-window range to the right. Large doorcase with fluted Corinthian columns, entablature and broken segmental pediment, and a wide, panelled double door. Moulded strings to the ground and first floors, break forward over the windows; wooden cornice gutter. 6/6-pane sashes with architraves and flush boxes. INTERIOR: central through hall divided by a panelled segmental arch, with an open-well stair on the right at the rear with twisted balusters, 3 to a tread; panelled dado, ramped and wreathed rail; stained-glass quarter-landing light; 6-panel doors and 3-panel shutters. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: rubble area walls and capped gate piers inscribed STAPLETON/ COURT.
