6/17 Monument to victims of Lundhill Colliery explosion, situated approximately 55 metres to south-east of Church of All Saints.

GV II

Monument. c1857. By W. Oxley of Barnsley. Fine sandstone ashlar. Stepped base and moulded plinth to square, corniced column surmounted by tall obelisk. Raised panels on column have biblical inscriptions and on the south side the words:

'ERECTED / TO COMMEMORATE THE / LUNDHILL EXPLOSION / OF FEBRUARY 19th 1857, / IN WHICH / ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTY NINE / MEN AND BOYS LOST THEIR LIVES / OF WHOSE BODIES / ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY SIX / ARE BURIED / NEAR THIS PLACE'.
