GODALMING SUMMERS ROAD SU 94 NE (south-east side, off) 1/210 16.8.90 Former Kitchen garden wall, Broadwater Park - II

Garden wall. Probably late 1840s, for George Marshall of Broadwater Hall. Red brick, partly in stretcher bond, partly in Flemish bond with grey headers. Wall encloses near-rectangular shaped garden, having main entrance in south-east side and pedestrian entrance in -west side. The walling is approx 2 metres high having oversailing shaped brick coping and ramping up to approx 3 metres high at the north-west end. The wide, main entrance has replacement board gates and square gate piers; to its right the walling has pilaster buttresses; to its left the wall is a crinkle-crankle wall, without buttresses, in stretcher bond, and ramped up over the basket-arched pedestrian entrance which is boarded up and set in projecting surround; north-west wall also crinkle-crankle. This garden belonged to Broadwater Hall (now demolished) which was built in the late 1840s.
