GV II
Shown on O.S. map as Lower Newlands Farm. Farmhouse. Early C18 virtual rebuilding of a C16 house. Red brick (Flemish bond) of 2 phases replacing earlier timber framing; plain tile roof with raised verges; brick ridge stack and integral end stack. 2-cell main range aligned north-west / south-east facing north-east, with a single-cell south-east wing aligned north-east / south-west, projecting slightly to the north-east; kitchen extension to the same alignment as the wing at its south-west end. North-west front. 2 storeys and attic with toothed first floor and eaves band to the main range. 2:3 window front; C20 casements in C18 openings with segmental heads; 2 gabled dormers. Crosswing to the left with exposed timber framed gable consisting of vertical struts between a tie beam and 2 collars. C19 door to right hand side of wing, and a blocked door with segmental head to the left-hand side of the main range. Single-storey lean-to extension to the left. The left hand return of the wing retains a timber wall plate with peg holes for former wall studding. Interior. The present front door within the wing is directly in front of the chimney stack so too is the blocked doorway in the main range. Ovolo-moulded cross beams in the ground floor room of the wing and an inglenook fireplace with ovolo-moulded bressumer. In the main range is an early C18 staircase with turned balusters, and in the right hand ground floor room some C18 wall panelling and a window seat. The left hand ground floor room has an inglenook fireplace with chamfered and stopped timber bressumer. Chamfered and stopped ceiling beams in both ground and first floor rooms.
