GREENS NORTON FIELD BURCOTE SP65SE 3/74 Field Burcote Farmhouse 01/12/51 (Formerly listed as Field Burcote including farmbuildings)

GV II

Farmhouse. c.1840. Coursed squared limestone, hipped slate roofs, white brick internal stacks. U-plan. 2-storey, 3-window range. Central double-leaf, part-glazed door with panelled reveals in shallow porch with unfluted Doric columns supporting entablature with triglyphs to frieze. 12-pane sash windows to ground and first floors with stone lintels and keyblocks. Plinth, storey band and deep overhanging eaves. 2-storey symmetrical wings flank main block to rear. That to rear left houses former brewhouse, that to right the former kitchen. Interior: stone-flagged hall, inner staircase hall and open-well staircase with stick balusters and steeply ramped and wreathed handrail, rising to first floor landing hall. Old kitchen has original large stone fireplace with stone lintel and keyblock with C19 cast-iron range. Stone cellar with brick vault. One of a number of model farms built for the 4th Duke of Grafton 1839-44. (Buildings of England: Northamptonshire, 1973, p.240; J.
