GODALMING CHURCH STREET SU 9643 NE (west side) 12/53 Nos 7 and 9 23.2.70 GV II

3 houses, now 2 shops. C17, largely rebuilt late C18; altered C19 and C20. Red brick in Flemish bond with some timber-framing; plain tile roofs. 2 storeys, 1:3 bays, left bay stepped up hill. Three C19 shop fronts (2 on left now to one shop), each having window of 4 round-arched lights and door, that to left bay half-glazed and with fanlight; those to right bays paired at centre, of 6 panels (the right one now half-glazed), with blind overlights; pilasters; friezes; dentilled cornice to right-hand bays; canopy box and cornice to left-hand bay. First floor: a 16-pane sash in reveal with flat brick arch to each bay, right- hand window with replacement arch, blind window over right-hand door; end of tie-rod on right. Parapet, rebuilt, with flat coping. Brick stacks, at right end and to rear of bay 2. Rear: wings on left and right; small-pane window to No 7. Interior: No 9 has square-panelled timber-framed former rear wall with brick infill, large scantling chamfered cross-beam and old joists, some exposed timber-framing on first floor and chamfered cross-beam with lamb's tongue stop.
