Country house, now Hotel 1904, dated on rainwater head, by Sir Ernest George. Ashlar with graduated stone slate roofs. Large mansion in Dutch classical style. Entrance front of 5 bays, 2 storeys with set back attic giving on to a terrace with balustrade is flanked by square towers with swept pyramidal roofs and domed bell turrets with vanes. Central segmental-pedimented projecting porch. Tall central 3-shaft chimney above. At left a projecting four-bay wing leads to domestic quarters around a courtyard with arched carriage entrance under pediment. All traditional detail of plinths, quoins, window architraves and modillion cornices. Venetian window to billiard room. 15-window garden front with Ionic pedimented 3-bay centrepiece. Lavish interior with rich entablatures, carved chimney-pieces, barreled passages, columned screens across reception rooms. Ashlar forecourt walls have square gate piers with griffin finials.
