SK 05 NE GRINDON C.P. ONECOTE

4/88 Onecote Old Hall - - II

House. C17 with later alterations and additions. Coursed rubble with ashlar dressings. Irregular plan but originally T-shaped with fully floored 2 bay hall range and 2 bay crosswing; original entrance was at lower end of hall rang. S W Elevation: 2 storeys and attic; 1:1:1 windows; gabled crosswing to right; gabled extension to left of C1700; mainly casements but central first floor window and blind attic window to right retain C17 mullions, ghosts of earlier windows below blind round headed attic window to left; central single storey extension with C20 glazed door. C18 lean-to extension to left. Interior: East end of S W side of hall range retains 3 lights of a former 5-light mullioned window lighting the upper end of the hall; C17 door with cambered lintel at West end of S W side of hall range. Wall between crosswing and hall range is timber framed with square panels probably contemporary with the stone outer walls. Roof trusses have tie beam, collar, queen struts, double purlins and ridge piece.
