6/20 Causeway leading to River Welland bridge

II

Causeway. Later C18, probably widened C19. Coursed rubble stone and squared stone with stone dressings, and red brick. The side walls, of stone, are pierced by 7 semicircular arches. Dressed stone surrounds, mostly with keystones and some of these are triple. Various tiny triple arches for drainage pipes as well. The larger arches are lined partly with large blocks of squared stone, and partly with red brick. On the upstream side are 2 large semicircular passing places, the bases of stone and the parapets of red brick with stone coping. The railings on both sides of the road are C20 and of concrete and metal. The causeway is clOOm long. The bridge over the River Welland is not of special interest.
