GV II
House of 1703 with alterations. Red brick, chequered brick bands, and
plain tile roof with 3 projecting end stacks. Front rendered. T plan,
wing projecting to rear. 3 storeys to front, 2 to rear. 5 2-light
mullion and transom windows on 1st floor with 3 2-light casements above
and 2 similar 2-lights below right and C19 bay below left. Central
doorcase with 2 stone Tuscan columns supporting canopy and 4-panelled part
glazed door. C20 extension to right. Left end has narrow casements
and sashes on all floors either side of projecting stack of which top
part is rebuilt. 2 blocked attic bull's eye windows. To rear the 3
window wing with gauged brick lintels has 5 x 3 pane staircase window with
3/3 above and 2 6/6 sashes both floors to left. Rear has similar narrow
sashes either side of projecting stack with 6/6 further left above renewed
window. 2 blocked bull's eye windows in gable. An unusual feature is
that the chequered band breaks-forward over the prominent brick keystones
to make a single element. This occurs to side and rear, and partly on
front, though here rendered. Interior: arch in hall has impost stones
and keystone with 1703 incised on latter, early C18 oak staircase with
turned balusters, 6-panelled doors, and some chamfered ceiling beams.
