5/16 Stable at The Lordship 40m to NW of house -
GV II
Stable. C16. Timber frame on low red brick sill, dark weatherboarded with a steep thatched roof. Part of rear slope of corrugated iron and back wall plastered with brick facing to lower part facing into farmyard. A 4-bay, single-storey building facing E. Hipped, one-storey, S end extension thatched and weatherboarded as a separate stable with vent strips under the eaves. Main stable has an unusual internal structure incorporating a passage along the E side defined by an extra post under each tie-beam. Swept jowls to bay posts with arched braces to wall plate and tie-beams (one brace springs from the post beside the passage). Queen-strut roof with collar and clasped- purlins with arched wind-braces. Low side walls with remains of wattle and daub infill in closed trusses. Some internal weatherboarding. Edge-halved scarf joint in wallplate with bridled butts. An unusual survival of a C16 stable building with internal divisions.
