House, at one time 2 dwellings and forge. Late C16 extended late C17. Timber frame, part exposed, rendered. Tiled roof. 3 bay through passage plan with 1 bay added to right. 2 storeys with a continuously jettied front. Ground floor: entrance between 2 left bays, plank door in original depressed 4 centred arched, ovolo moulded surround, flower buds in spandrels, left bay has an original projecting ovolo moulded mullion and transom oriel window, 8 lights with 1 light returns. To right of entrance are a 2 light small pane casement with hood board, a 12 pane horizontal sliding sash and a C19 8 light mullion and transom oriel window to former forge to far right. Jetty with curved braces to main bearers, bull nosed with joists. First floor exposed close studding, four 24 pane flush frame horizontal sliding sashes, sprocket eaves. Exposed plates and purlins to left end, small casements to right end. Catslide roof over red brick faced lean-to outshut to rear right with a rebuilt stack to rear right where original block meets early additions. To rear of left or parlour bay is an original, large external stack with tiled offsets, rendered rebuilt cap. Behind this a C19 weatherboarded, slate roofed 1 storey outshut. To rear centre a 1 storey C20 lean-to, 2 light casements above. Interior: ground floor, parlour has some C17 panelling, original 3 light ovolo moulded window frames with diagonal mullions flanking oriel, inglenook partly rebuilt. Stop chamfered bearers and joists, jowled posts. First floor: above parlour more C17 panelling and a re-used C15 ovolo moulded bearer with foliate stops. Curved passing tension braces, jowled posts. Curved windbraces to clasped purlin roof. The house originally had gables to the front over each of its 4 bays. (RCHM Typescript).
