Public house, tearoom and shop. Probably mid-late C18 with mid C19
extension and alteration. Extension built by Ralph and Mary Dowson. C18
part whitewashed sandstone; extension hammered sandstone. Pantile roofs.
C18 front 2 storeys, 3 windows at left of 3-storey, 1-window extension
built against sloping ground. C18 front has paired 6-panel doors at
centre, with 4-pane sashes on each side, the right one with shutters.
Similar windows on first floor. Painted stone sills to all windows. Left
end and right-of-centre stacks. Extension has paired part-glazed doors
flanked by large-pane, fixed light shop windows. 16-pane sash on first
floor with painted stone sill, and 8-pane sash on second floor. Hipped
roof with ridge stack. Right return: approached by external flight of
steps. 6-panel doors on first floor and part-glazed openings on second
floor.
