II
Two houses. C16 origins with C17 additions. Cased and extended in C18.
Altered and extended in C19 and C20. Timber frame to core. Red brick
casing and additions. Tiled roofs. Originally 2 bays, possibly an open
hall, now The Old Cottage. 1 bay rear wing added, further additions to
rear and extended to right now Pond Cottage. 2 storeys throughout. The
Old Cottage front has a C20 extruded stack to centre with 2 diagonal
shafts. To left ground and first floor horizontal sliding sashes with
cambered heads. C20 casements to right. Dentilled brick eaves. Tilehung
left end gable. First floor horizontal sliding sash and dentilled brick
eaves to rear. Extending behind is a timber framed C17 bay and 2 further
bays of C18 brick. Entrance where rear wing meets main range with a
hipped roof to porch on timber posts. C20 casements in C17 bay with
exposed frame, brick nogging, some renewed. 2 bays to rear have an
entrance and a first floor horizontal sliding sash. Half hipped roof at
rear end. Ridge stack. C19 and C20 additions to rear right. Pond Cottage
has a 2 bay C18 front: entrance to left in later gabled timber porch.
Ground and first floor right 2 light timber casements. First floor left
horizontal sliding sash, all with cambered heads. Dentilled brick eaves.
Right end stack. 1 storey C19 stock brick rear wing. Interior: The Old
Cottage has ogee stop chamfered binding beam and exposed framing. First
floor not inspected.
