the description shall be amended to read:
Country house, now school. Circa mid C18, extended circa late C18 and again in late C19 and late C20. Flemish bond red brick with burnt headers. Slate mansard roof. Brick axial stacks. Plan: The circa mid C18 5-bay double depth plan house was extended by 2 bays to the right (E) in circa late C18. In circa late C19 the east extension was extended at the back (N) and in 1987 a 3-bay extension was built on the left (W) side- Exterior: 2 storeys and attic, original attic windows blocked and mansard added. 5 plus 2 bays to right. Tall 12- pane sashes in deep reveals with gauged brick flat arches. Large Ionic pilastered doorcase at centre with broken entablature with broken segmental pediment and pulvinated frieze, panelled reveals, glazed and panelled door and small overlight; (doorway possibly moved from bay to left). C20 dormers in mansard and late C20 3-bay extension on left with sash windows. 5-bay rear elevation with central French window and 12-pane sashes, 3-bay late C19 extension on left and 1987 extension on right. Other circa late C20 single storey extensions on left (NE). Interior: The rear rooms of original house and the entrance hall retain heavy modillion cornices, the rear rooms have C18 marble chimneypieces, the rear left (saloon) has rococo plasterwork on walls. Front left room has early C19 marble chimneypiece, ceiling cornice and window architraves. Hall has dado panelling and arch to stairs which rises to attic, iron balustrade of bowed stick balusters. Note: Kendal Hall was the seat of the Phillimores. In 1766, it passed to Robert Phillimore from William Jephson, who acquired the property from the Cecil family in 1739. Former house, now school. Mid C18, extended later C18 and C19. Red brick with burnt headers. Slate mansard roof. 2 storeys and attic. Originally 5 bays, now 7. Central entrance: fielded panelled reveals to Ionic doorcase, broken segmental pediment. Glazing bar sashes in deep reveals. Gauged brick flat arched heads. Original attic windows blocked. Moulded brick cornice to coped parapet. 3 C20 attic windows in mansard. Capped end stacks that to right now on ridge to later addition. Left return: 3 bays, blocked windows. Rear: central French window. Rear right: 3-storey C19 extension in stock brick with red brick dressings, relieving arches over two 3-light casements to rear. 1 storey C20 addition to rear of no special interest. (Pevsner 1977).
