Block of houses. Circa 1800. Timber frame plastered with stucco low plinth. Low pitched slate roofs. An irregular row of contiguous houses in 3 parts with carriageway through middle part. All of 2 storeys but the double-fronted No 44 at N end is highest. Slightly lower is No 42 which extends over the carriageway. Nos 36, 38 and 40 are deeper and slightly lower than No 42. This S part is one and a half handed pairs of small houses each with one window to each floor, and door remote from fireplace. Flush box sash windows, larger on ground floor with moulded surrounds and 6/6 panes. 8/8 panes on 1st floor. Early C19 3-panel moulded door with panelled pilasters and corner blocks and flat-moulded hoods. No 42 has 2 windows to each floor and central door. Flush sashes with moulded surrounds and 6/6 panes on both floors. Reeded surround to 4-panel flush door. No 44, 3 windows wide symmetrical W front with windows similar to No 42 and 6 panel fielded door with reeded surround with corner blocks and paterae. Flat moulded hood on shaped brackets.
